Kenyan athlete dies during marathon



Tragedy was recorded in the Kenyan sports history on Sunday, October 13, 2013 when a 30-year-old athlete collapsed and died during his race.
Geoffery Tarno reportedly gave up the ghost during the Kimbilio marathon organized by Living Room International at Chebaywo village in Uasin Gishu County.

The athlete fainted during his race and was immediately picked up by an ambulance but he died while medical experts tried to revive him.

The Athletics Kenya (AK) Central Rift chairman, Abraham Mutai, has ordered the organisers of the game to give a full report of the event so as to ascertain the real cause of the death ‘We just want to know if there was negligence or it was just an unfortunate incident’

The father of four who hails from Chepsaita village in Nandi County has been deposited at Kimbilia Funeral Home.

Until his death, Tarno was a marathoner and member of Kibiswet Athletics Club in Eldoret.

He was one of the participants at the 2009 Kass Marathon.
